when kate nash popped on the scene, everyone labeled her the new lily allen. her debut single, foundations, certainly had allen-like aspects to it. however, kate’s entire album was great. her lyrics were simple and sometimes bordered on stupid, but her songs were unique and her voice and accent made it fun to listen to. i remember during senior year we were all obsessed with her song Birds, and even when i got to college people were familiar with her songs like merry happy or even dickhead.

but then kate decided to change it up. the first leak from her second album is one of the biggest music-induced earaches ive ever had. the entire song is the same line over and over, except she screams it until its so loud you’re off to the doctors to get your ears syringed. check this out, its like she took it upon herself to go from the next lily allen to the next yeah yeah yeahs but failed miserably:

on the bright side, the first single do wah doo is a little more promising. at times annoying, its overall a catchy tune. lets hope her album goes more in this direction than the karen o wannabe route.
