Bass Tip-Up

ive blogged about codeine velvet club before, but seeing them live at sxsw made me love them even more and even drove me to buy their album. they hit the day stage at the austin convention center, and though the audience didn’t seem to have any idea who they were, by the end of the set everyone was really into it. lou hickey was complementary to jon lawler not just vocally, but even personality-wise. he was quiet, but she took control of audience interaction, promising people drinks if they came up and danced. in spite of his silence, jon definitely had the most charisma on stage and really came alive while performing. my favourite track was ‘reste avec moi,’ but like all their music i feel like the studio version doesn’t do it justice. they were far more impressive live than their album suggests, which is somewhat disappointing. here is a live performance which should give you a better picture of what i got to see at sxsw!
